Today we witness a moment of grace and history. His Majesty King Charles has become the first British monarch to publicly acknowledge the presence and service of LGBT+ people, and to honour those who were unjustly persecuted for their identity while serving their country.
For decades, many faithful men and women endured deep suffering — losing their homes, careers, pensions, and reputations, simply because of who they were. Many carried wounds of rejection, silence, and shame. Today’s act of remembrance — laying flowers at a new memorial for LGBT+ service members — is an act of truth, compassion, and healing.
As followers of Christ, we are reminded that every person is made in the image and likeness of God. Each life bears divine worth and should be met with dignity, respect, and love. The Gospel calls us to stand beside those who have been cast aside and to proclaim God’s unconditional love for all.
May this day inspire us to continue building communities of inclusion and reconciliation — where no one is forgotten, and all are welcomed at the table of Christ’s love.
