Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified… for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”
SERMON TITLE: IN DARK TIMES, GOD IS STILL THERE
INTRODUCTION
Church, there are moments in life when everything feels heavy.
Sometimes the darkness is not outside… it is inside.
You smile, but you’re broken.
You laugh, but you’re tired.
You pray, but you feel like nothing is changing.
And in those moments, the enemy whispers:“God has left you.”
But today I came with a word from heaven:
In dark times, God will never leave you—He is with you always.
1. DARK TIMES ARE PART OF LIFE
Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”
Notice David did not say if I walk through the valley.
He said though I walk through the valley.
Meaning valleys are unavoidable.
Some valleys come through:
sickness
financial struggle
loss of a loved one
rejection
disappointment
betrayal
But the good news is this:
The valley is not your final destination.
You may be walking through it, but you are not stuck in it.
2. GOD’S PRESENCE DOES NOT DEPEND ON YOUR FEELINGS
Sometimes you don’t feel God.
But feelings are not facts.
Just because you can’t see Him doesn’t mean He is not there.
Hebrews 13:5
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
God did not say:
“I will leave you when you fail.”
“I will leave you when you cry.”
“I will leave you when you are confused.”
He said: never.
That means:
never in depression
never in poverty
never in grief
never in loneliness
Even when you can’t trace God, you can trust God.
3. GOD IS CLOSEST IN THE DARKEST MOMENTS
Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you…”
God did not promise you wouldn’t face waters.
But He promised you wouldn’t face them alone.
The fire may be real. The pain may be real. The battle may be real.
But God’s presence is more real than the storm.
Example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego
They were thrown into the fire.
But the king looked and said:
“Did we not throw three men into the fire? …I see four!”
The fire did not destroy them.
Because God joined them.
Somebody needs to hear this today:
Your fire will not consume you, because God is in it with you.
4. DARKNESS DOES NOT CANCEL GOD’S PROMISES
Many people believe that because life is hard, God has forgotten them.
But sometimes the darkness is proof you are close to breakthrough.
The enemy attacks hardest when he knows your blessing is near.
Psalm 30:5
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.”
The night does not last forever.
The darkness has an expiration date.
God is still writing your story.
5. GOD’S PRESENCE IS YOUR STRENGTH
When God is with you, you may bend…
but you will not break.
2 Corinthians 4:8-9
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed…”
You may be pressed, but not crushed. You may be struck down, but not destroyed.
Why?
Because God is with you.
6. JESUS IS PROOF THAT GOD DOES NOT ABANDON US
The greatest proof that God will never leave you is Jesus.
Jesus stepped into darkness so you could walk in light.
On the cross, Jesus carried:
sin
shame
sickness
rejection
So that you could have peace.
Even in His darkest moment, Jesus showed us something powerful:
Darkness cannot stop God’s plan.
The cross looked like defeat…
But Sunday morning came.
CLOSING MESSAGE
Church, hear this clearly:
If you’re in a dark season, God is with you.
If you feel alone, God is with you.
If you’ve been crying at night, God is with you.
If people walked away from you, God has not.
The darkness may surround you…
But the presence of God will sustain you.
ALTAR CALL / RESPONSE
If you are in a dark time right now, lift your heart to God.
Because this is not your end.
God is not finished with you.
The same God who kept Daniel in the lion’s den…
The same God who walked in the fire…
The same God who raised Jesus from the dead…
is the same God standing with you today.
FINAL DECLARATION
I declare over your life:
You will survive this season.
You will overcome this battle.
You will smile again.
You will rise again.
Because in dark times, God will never leave you—He is with you always.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father, in the name of Jesus,I pray for everyone walking through dark times.Comfort the broken, strengthen the weak, restore the tired.Remind them that Your presence is with them always.Let every storm calm, let every burden lift, and let every heart receive peace. We declare victory, hope, and restoration. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
