Priest On Call — Serving Wiltshire & Beyond

Faith • People • Community

Spiritual care doesn’t always happen inside a church. Sometimes people need someone beside them at home, in hospital, at the roadside, during a crisis, or simply at a moment when life becomes overwhelming.

Priest On Call is a mobile community ministry serving Wiltshire and beyond, providing compassionate, confidential and non-judgmental spiritual and practical support to people when they need it.

Whether you have a faith, have lost your faith, belong to another tradition, or have no religious belief at all, you are welcome.

Here When You Need Someone

Life does not operate to church opening hours.

Bereavement, illness, loneliness, relationship difficulties, family crises, accidents and unexpected situations can happen at any time. Priest On Call exists to take ministry beyond the walls of the church and into the communities we serve.

Sometimes a person needs prayer. Sometimes they need practical help. Sometimes they simply need another human being willing to sit beside them and listen.

The principle behind the ministry is simple:

Be present. Listen. Support. Never judge.

Our Services

✝️ Emergency Spiritual Support

Where circumstances allow, urgent pastoral and spiritual support can be provided to people experiencing distress, bereavement, serious family circumstances or other difficult moments.

This may include prayer, pastoral conversation, reassurance, spiritual guidance or simply a calm and compassionate presence.

🙏 Prayer & Spiritual Care

Prayer can be offered in person or remotely for individuals, families and communities.

You do not have to regularly attend church to ask for prayer or pastoral support.

🕊️ Bereavement & End-of-Life Support

Bereavement can be one of the loneliest experiences anyone faces.

Support may include:

  • Sitting with individuals and families following a death

  • Prayer and spiritual comfort

  • Support around hospitals, hospices or care settings where appropriate

  • Helping families begin conversations regarding funerals and memorials

  • Continued pastoral support following bereavement

No one should feel that they have to face grief completely alone.

❤️ Someone to Talk To

Not every crisis requires an answer.

Sometimes you simply need somebody who will listen without judgement.

Priest On Call provides a confidential pastoral listening service for people experiencing difficult circumstances, loneliness, anxiety about life, family problems or those simply needing someone to talk to.

🚗 Roadside Assistance & Support

The Priest On Call ministry is also expanding to include community roadside assistance and welfare support.

Being stranded beside a road can be frightening, particularly at night, in poor weather or when someone is vulnerable or travelling alone.

Where it is safe and appropriate to do so, roadside support may include:

  • Checking on the welfare of stranded motorists

  • Remaining with vulnerable people while professional assistance is arranged

  • Helping contact a breakdown or recovery provider

  • Helping contact family or friends

  • Providing reassurance and pastoral support following an accident or frightening incident

  • Basic practical assistance where appropriate and within our ability

  • Helping people obtain directions or make onward travel arrangements

  • Providing spiritual support following a road traffic incident

  • Supporting individuals waiting for emergency or recovery services

  • Signposting people towards appropriate professional assistance

A Ministry on the Roads

Our roadside work is about more than vehicles.

Behind every broken-down car is a person — perhaps frightened, elderly, vulnerable, alone or simply having a very bad day.

Sometimes the most important assistance we can provide is simply not leaving someone to face that situation alone.

Community support. Spiritual care. A reassuring presence when it matters.

Important: Priest On Call is not a replacement for the emergency services, professional vehicle recovery operators or qualified mechanics. Where specialist assistance is required, the appropriate service will always be encouraged or contacted.

🏠 Community Visits

Where appropriate, pastoral visits may be available for people who are:

  • Housebound

  • Elderly

  • Living alone

  • Experiencing bereavement

  • Recovering from illness

  • Going through difficult personal circumstances

  • Unable to attend church

Our ministry is about taking the Church to people, rather than expecting people always to come to the Church.

🏥 Hospital & Care Support

Where access and circumstances permit, pastoral visits may also be available for people in hospitals, hospices and care environments.

Support can include prayer, conversation, bedside pastoral care and support for relatives.

✝️ Blessings & Sacramental Ministry

Depending upon circumstances and pastoral need, ministry may include:

Prayer • Blessings • Holy Communion • Anointing • Confession • Pastoral Visits • Funeral Support • Memorial Prayer

Please contact us to discuss individual circumstances.

🌈 Everyone Is Welcome

There is no test of faith before receiving compassion.

Our ministry welcomes people regardless of:

Faith • denomination • background • nationality • sexuality • gender identity • disability • financial circumstances • lifestyle or personal history

You will not be preached at.

You will not be judged.

You will simply be treated as a human being deserving dignity, compassion and respect.

🔒 Confidential & Non-Judgmental

Pastoral conversations are treated with sensitivity and discretion.

Where possible, what you share remains confidential, subject to normal safeguarding responsibilities and situations where there may be an immediate serious risk to someone's safety.

Our purpose is not to judge someone's circumstances.

Our purpose is to listen, support and care.

Serving Wiltshire & Beyond

Based in Wiltshire, the ministry aims to support communities throughout the county and, where circumstances permit, beyond.

As Priest On Call develops, the vehicle will allow pastoral ministry to become increasingly mobile — reaching people in communities, at events, beside the road and wherever a pastoral presence may be needed.

From the streets to the roads — the next chapter of ministry.
