Each year, the Old Catholic Apostolic Church in the United Kingdom holds a 'Principal Service' and a 'Synod' as well as an Auxiliary synod. The other provinces and national churches in the Old Catholic Apostolic Church throughout the world hold similar events for exactly the same reasons.
These are held in different locations to allow as many people to attend, as well as to publicly ordain and recognise our clergy. As a dispersed church of part-time and unpaid (volunteer) clergy these are important events to recognise and re-assure not only our members but the members of other Christian Denominations of the work we do, and of the value of each person working out their calling in Christ.
These are where we ordain our clergy, and where we share learning and fellowship in the same 'space', not only within OCAC, but also the denominations of other churches that we work amongst. We call it 'synod' but in the strict sense they are not that: they are principal services and learning workshops. We welcome members of other churches that would like to attend to be with us at these events.
The 2025 Synod was held in Edinburgh on June 20th, 21st & 22nd.
Friday at St Giles Cathedral, Royal Mile, Edinburgh
Saturday at Liberton Kirk, Edinburgh
Sunday at St Catherine's Well, on the southern outskirts of Edinburgh
